Tips
DoubleTree by Hilton Melaka is the only Hilton properties in Melaka. Situated at the Hatten City, this hotel shares the same building with Hatten Place, Element Mall and Silverscape Residence. Melaka city centre has tonnes of attractions including Menara Taming Sari, Melaka River Cruise, Stadhuys and etc which is just 9 minutes drive from this hotel.
Check in
We arrived at the hotel around 4 pm and the room was not ready so we had to wait for approximately 15 minutes before we received our room key. Special shout out to Mr. Herman who professionally assisted us during the check in process and offered us complimentary drinks at Axis Lounge while waiting for our room to be ready.
Room
We initially booked a King Guest Room but got upgraded to Junior Suite on the 17th floor. The suite was huge and spacious overlooking Melaka city centre. We really loved the open layout of this suite that made it looks spacious and bigger. Once you enter the suite, you can find the main bathroom on the left hand side and wardrobes on the right hand side.
The bathroom was so spacious and you can find the bidet toilet covered with frosted glass for full privacy, on the left hand side of the bathroom. On the right hand side, you can find the rainfall shower and a bathtub which can easily accommodate 5 to 6 people at once. Water pressure in the bathroom was great but we had difficulties when dealing with the shower pipe and water heater. It took few minutes for the shower to get hot and it was quite confusing when you want to switch from rainfall shower to handheld shower (but it was not a big issue).
The seating area and bedroom were located at the end of the suite with ceiling-to-floor windows (almost!) spanning across the whole suite. There was 3 sofas in the seating area and one working desk for you to get your jobs done. Despite being a suite, there was no coffee machine provided so do not put high hope on that.
The bed was comfy and the fact that the bed faced the windows made us appreciate the suite more, especially at night! There was a touch screen panel for you to control the air conditioning in your suite, located at the side of the bed.
Food
Despite all the positive notes about this hotel, we had terrible breakfasts at Makan Kitchen. The choice of food was rather limited and not to mention the taste of the food. This was not what we were expecting at a Hilton properties since we had very good meals at other Hilton properties across Malaysia. The only food that tasted good was Nestum Fried Chicken and other than that was just bad. The Nasi Lemak was tasteless and the quality of other food was below standard. So if you want to purchase a rate with breakfast at this hotel, I would suggest you not to do so. You can easily find other hawker centres or restaurants that serve good food in Malacca city centre.
Facilities
This hotel has a gym and a swimming pool located besides the Tosca Restaurant. The swimming pool was rather basic and there was no "wow" factor that made us wanted to go there.
Staff service
The quality of service provided by the staffs here was top notch! They were very friendly and showed highest level of professionalism. From the receptionists to the housekeepers, they want to make your stay memorable.
